A dating-guide to the 19th century

After a long winter the whole world awakes anew on spring, when both people and animals begin looking for love. Because of this we will devote the Museum Thursday on 15th of February to dating in the Ostrobothnian countryside during the 19th century.

During spring unmarried girls used to move out to their lofts and sheds, when it became possible to welcome suitors for controlled evening visits. Large groups of suitors would walk together from shed to shed, in hopes of finding a potential fiancé. While courtship was expected to be chaste, the traditional evening gatherings for courting could lead to conflicts between young men from different villages.

We welcome you to Stundars’ dating-guide to the 19th century, at 13 o’clock in Swedish, at 14 o’clock in Finnish, and 15 o’clock in English. We will meet at the yellow info-stand, next to the parking area. Dress according to the weather, for we will be outside the entire time.
